WHAT'S ON IN ANDALUCIA. Coming soon....

The big one this month is Carnaval, back in its rightful place after confusingly happening in March last year. With La Pepa 1812 celebrations – the bicentenary of Spain’s first constitution, written in Cadiz - bringing attention onto the city, this year’s Carnaval is likely to be crazier than ever.

On 28 February is Dia de Andalucia, with the green-and-white colours of the region’s flag visible everywhere.

This year February is leap year – the month has 29 days - so it’s the ideal opportunity to whisk your partner away for a romantic trip to Andalucia, and ask the Big Question.

ExposiciÓn JerÓnimo Elespe CAC Malaga TÁcitos y sordos

Opening of the Exhibition of works by Jerónimo Elespe - "Tácitos y sordos" starts at 8pm. It is considered his most autobiographical work to date. The exhibition will stay in CAC Málaga until the 25th of March. The artist uses a selection of utensils and media on Aluminium canvasses to give a textured effect.

Sunshine Tour 2012 - Dressage

This is the first part of the world famous Sunshine Tour 2012, this is the dressage section of the competition. It is a multiday event which looks to be a very interesting competition.The competition is divided into 2 weeks (31st January - 5th February and 7th - 12th February) with performances in all of the Montenmedio facilities.

Sunshine Tour 2012 - Show Jumping

This is the second part of the world famous Sunshine Tour 2012, this is the Show Jumping section of the competition. The competition is divided into six five day events, with the final Invitational on the 25th of March. There will be events in all of the Montenmedio facilities.

Andalucia Bike Race

The second edition of Andalucía Bike Race will take place from 26 February to 2 March 2012 in the provinces of Córdoba and Jaén with more than 17,000€ of prize money available for the Elite Men and Women categories. For the non-professional riders, the Andalucía Bike Race gives you the opportunity to compete with some of the best athletes in the world! The entry fee is 380€ per person, but the early bird entry price is 290€ per person until 8 January 2012.

The Andalucia Open will return next month to travel from Malaga Aloha Golf, Marbella, at the hands of Miguel Angel Jimenez. The tournament, part of the European Tour, is celebrating its eleventh edition and will be held from 15 to 18 March sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, the Tourist Board of the Costa del Sol, Malaga Provincial Council, the City of Benahavis and the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol.

Alturas Group - Musicians

The Andean group Alturas, considered the best instrumental ensemble of Peru, and the Latin-American Coral Tantanakuy, dedicated to the study and diffusion of the musical arts of Latin-America, present the premiere of "America Canta" with more than 35 artists on stage and 20 different acoustic instruments.
The performance will take place at 20:00. The programme is a selection of the most important Latin-American works of all times including the well-known Misa Criolla (Creole Mass). Composed by Ariel Ramirez in 1963 for a group of folkloric musical instruments, soloists, mixed choirs and piano, which is based on traditional folk rhythms from Argentina and Boliviaa, it was composed to as a great popular liturgical expression, which is now often performed all around the world in several classical concert halls. The programme is complimented with a selection of choral works and popular pieces like “La flor de la canela”, “Duerme Negrito”, “Capullito de alelí” or “El mayoral”.

The Great Estepona Dog Show

The 2012 Estepona Dog Show, organised by local charity ADANA to raise money and awarenes for the the rights of abandoned animals on the Costa del Sol. This years show will include 2 new classes: Best New Breed and Best Spanish Breed. There will also be the usual obedience and agility classes, plus "dog with the most wagging tail" and "dog that looks most like his/her owner". A day of fun for all the family, to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Put this date in your diaries for a fun family day out for a great cause.
